Definition clarification

In filtration and separation there are used many technical terms, so here we will definite differtent words that is often used when talking about filters.

A pressure filter is a technical device that is used to separate solids and liquid away from each other, by using hight pressure to press the slurry thru a filter that capture the solids.

A filter press is one type of the pressure filters, and is most often referred to a horizontal pressure filter where the filter plates are pressed sideways.

The filter cake is the collection of solid particles that have been filtered out away from the liquid and pressed into a “cake”.

The filtrate is the liquid that has been separated out thru the filter.

The term slurry is used for a mix medium that consists of both solid particles and liquid.

Dewatering reffered to as removing the liquid by filtering so that you are only left with solids.

Flocculants is an additive that causes small particles to aggregate into larger flocs, which affect the filteration Properties. Flocculants are often used to improve the filtration efficiency, the cake dryness and the filtrate clearity.
